First day of exploring Chimney Rock. It is an archeological site used by the Ancestral Puebloan people appoximately 1,000 years ago, from about 900 AD to 1150 AD. Ancestral Puebloan farmers lived in villages and on dispersed homesteads. In addition there is a Chaco Great Pueblo that Native American tribes still have a special spiritual and traditional affinity for the place.
The Forest Service collects entrance fee on each vehicle. They also accept passes so ask the Ranger.
Gate opens at 9:00 and closes at 4:00.
