Join us for the Major Lunar Standstill, which occurs every 18.6 years, on October 21, 2024. The US Forest Service, and partners, have developed unique opportunities to share the event on October 21, via live-stream of the Moon rising between Chimney Rock and Companion Rock. Events leading up to the Moonrise will include stargazing and presentations on astronomy, archaeology, and culture from leading experts. (Reservations are required.) Check-in is at the Visitor Center parking lot from 8:00 pm to 8:45 pm at which time the gate will be locked. The Amphitheater program commences at 9:00 pm for stargazing and presentations by guest speakers. The MLS live-stream event will begin around 10:00 pm.
